Hi there, I contacted the forum quite a while ago saying that I had bought vagabond to rebuild. Since then life took its sweet time (kids, work, etc) but finally I have had the time to rebuild her. She will be on the water next month!! My questions are, when I was removing some of the old varnish I spotted a manufacturers sticker saying turnercraft. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this company/ any relation to Jon Turner ( probably not) but it might answer some of the unknown builders in the register. This hull does not appear to have an aft tank and does not appear to have been modified were early boats all tanked to the rear? Thanks in anticipation of your answers.

Are you sure it isn’t Turacraft? Early boats all had stern tanks but they had gone by 1966. About the same time the tiller was mounted above the transom instead of through an aperture cut in the transom and fed over a dip in the top of the tank.

Hi Carol, I checked and you are correct it does say turacraft (any background info would be useful for history) how big were the stern tanks as I can’t find any filled holes or changes done to the stern. The tiller goes through the transom as you said. I wondered if turacraft would have info presuming they are still in business.

    Hi Adam

Look at the Phil Slade newsletter article and the forum thread on ‘Bringing an old lady back to life: there are photos and possible contacts that may help.

    Regards
    Carol
