Penzance 2020 Nationals: Rescheduling for Penzance 2021

Dear All,

We hope you’re all well in these strange and weird times. We’ve got a mixed bag of news. Last night we made the decision to cancel this year’s Nationals, for what we hope are obvious reasons. It was a very tough decision to have to take, with the event having built such momentum and all of us looking forward to it, and with The Hornets and Penzance Sailing Club both being brilliant partners.

So we’re delighted to announce that we’re still going to Penzance for the 60th anniversary, just in 2021! We’ve already got 100+ Scorps entered and it’s going to be fantastic.

We’d done so much planning and working together with The Hornets and Penzance, and Penzance were so up for holding the event that it became a no brainer to go there for 2021. We also hope that this means people can ask to shift any deposits on accommodation back a year.

In terms of dates we’ll confirm these ASAP, hopefully by the end of the week.

And in case anyone who has pre-entered for this year but can’t go next year, then obviously we’ll arrange a refund. Please email Steve (

Not only are we going to double down our efforts on making this THE best sailing event of 2021 but we’re also seeing if we can organise a fantastic weekend later this year of sailing, friends and maybe some drinking for sometime tbc, if circumstances allow.

The committee are really proud to represent this great class. We have record reserves in the bank, 5 new boats are being built and we have had some of the best press on our resurgence. We all know we have the best kept secret in sailing in our phenomenal boat and our friendships that are something to treasure. And the week-long Pirate Party will Party like nothing before. 100+ Scorpions sailed by you will create a memory for all of us and we will all say:

“I was there! ”

With very best wishes

Your Scorpion Committee
