RYA Suzuki Dinghy Show 2014
The 2014 RYA Suzuki Dinghy show was marked with a change of stand location for the National Scorpion Association, now situated in the Great Hall making us a more prominent presence amongst the Fireballs and Merlins. No one could miss us with a bright yellow carpet and luminous yellow spinnaker, especially when a shaft of sunlight lit us up! (The sun shines on the best!).
Saturday saw a stream of visitors to the stand. Some previous Scorpion sailors reminiscing about old times and generally observing – ‘isn’t there a lot more string?!’, and new members seeking tips and admiring the set up of the championship winning boat. The usual suspect were out in force, and we were encouraged by the number of potential new class members.
A big thank you to; Pete G, Rachel, Tim, Hannah, Simon F, Pete M, John & Ann, Oli, Tom J, John M and Steve W for coming and representing the Scorpion class on the stand. Thank you also to Oli and P&B for bringing 2030 and rigging her on the Friday (The new owner will be relieved to hear that the only side-effect has been a good clean and polish!).
TWO Scorpions were on show this year, with 2021 (Halcyon Daze) being admired on the Harken stand.
There were a few more familiar faces that dropped by to say hello which boosted the friendly and busy appearance of the stand and of course the class! Sunday was a quieter affair, but we were still visited by past, present and new Scorpion sailors. We did our best to entice and encourage those interested to join our fleet and there was a lot of genuine and positive interest this year. Now looking forward to the sailing season ahead! See you all there!!
