2019 Nationals Arrival Instructions, Accommodation, Camping & Useful Information

Arrival Instructions

Enter the town on the B5115 road heading north towards the sea. Llandudno Sailing Club is located on Irving Road which runs parallel to the final straight of the B5115 before it turns right to run east along the seafront. The dinghy park is on the Promenade directly opposite the club. Refer to the map and instructions below for berth allocation:

All dinghies will be allocated to the section of the dinghy park west of the concrete slipway (Berths 1 to 50). The Club Stewards will help you with trailer unhitching and moving your boat into its allocated berth. Your trailer will also stay (somewhere) in the dinghy park for the duration of the week (except double-stackers – which will need to be towed down to Bodafon Fields from Sunday). Further information can be found in the Club’s Welcome Guide:

If you are arriving on Friday 26 July then the Club will be open until around 2000 with galley food and a warm welcome.

Registration

This will take place on Saturday 27 July with timings thus:

1100 – 1300

1400 – 1600

1800 – 1900

Last chance registration is on Sunday 28 July 0800 – 0900.

You’ll need to sign the Entry Declaration form in respect of:

Boat insurance

Valid measurement certificate (which we may or may not check – but best to bring it along anyway as we will be doing random spot checks/ scrutineering on boats throughout the week)

Photographic consent

WhatsApp group consent (we’re hoping to set up a closed group for Scorpion comms. …..)

Under 18’s – Parent/ Guardian

Also we need to double-check date-of-birth for some of the early entrants as there was a glitch with our original electronic Declaration form.

Briefing

There will be an introductory event briefing in the Club on Saturday 27 July at 1830.

The full briefing will take place in the Club on Sunday 28 July at 0900.

Camping

Camping is available at Bodafon Farm Park which is part of Bodafon Fields, Llandudno LL30 1BW; a local park/ event ground to the east of Llandudno town centre in an area known as Craig-Y-Don.

Available at the all-inclusive price of £25 for the week (£5 more than originally advertised to cover the cost of two smart ‘his’ and ‘hers’ toilets which are already on site).

Please pay for your camping during Registration at Llandudno Sailing Club.

Location as per Google map extract below:

To get there leave Llandudno Sailing Club and follow the B5115 road east along seafront keeping the beach on your left.

Note that the B5115 road will be designated  ‘Promenade’, ‘The Parade’ and ultimately ‘Colwyn Road’.

Entrance to Bodafon Fields is opposite the Craig-Y-Don paddling pool which is located between the beach and the road. The designated camping area will be visible as you walk south across Mostyn Avenue.

Approximate walking distance from sailing club is 800-900 metres or 10-12 minutes for all you fit and agile Scorpion sailors (allow 30 minutes or more if it’s late and you’ve been in the bar too long)!

Due to a prior event booking in the form of Llandudno Jazz Festival all campers will need to change fields (to the adjacent one) after Saturday 27 July. Initially you will pitch up on the ‘secondary’ field (which is slightly further east) and spend Saturday night there. Then on the Sunday you move to the ‘primary’ field (which has better drainage apparently) and stay there for the remainder of the week. Yes, this does mean that you will get some extra practice in dismantling your tent and then re-pitching it about 100 metres away but unfortunately we don’t have a negotiating position on this one! Your committee are happy to organise a competition to see who can effect their move the fastest (carrying of complete tents permitted) – all entries to Dave Elston.

Parking

We’ve received a few questions on this one and the good news is that Llandudno has lots of car parks (Pay & Display) as well as on-street parking. Like any popular holiday destination, though, it does get busy so you may have to drive around looking for the optimum place to park. Below is a list of car parks in Llandudno town as provided by the local authority (Conwy County Borough Council):

Happy Valley – LL30 2ND

Maelgwyn Road – LL30 2YN

Venue Cymru – LL30 1YR

Town Hall – LL30 2ST

York Road – LL30 2EF

The Parade – LL30 2XT

Dale Road – LL30 2BG

Venue Cymru is the nearest long-stay car park to Llandudno Sailing Club, with all of the other car parks further west towards the town centre. Note that Happy Valley, Town Hall and The Parade are short-stay car parks. One week permits for the long-stay car parks can be purchased in person from the Town Hall, tel. 01492 576622.

Further details are available on the local authority’s website:

Some useful L-ocal knowledge gleaned yesterday by our cost-conscious Treasurer:

Free on-street parking is available on the B5115/Promenade/ Parade heading east along the seafront. There don’t appear to be any time restrictions and best time to arrive is 1100-1200.
