Silver Scorpion @ Porthpean

The Silver Scorpion Open Meeting at Porthpean started on the Saturday afternoon with a pleasant breeze blowing from the Northwest and some real sunshine. The first race was delayed by the wind shifting around as the battle between the sea breeze and true wind was decided. On this occasion the true breeze winning out.
The first start got away in good order and it soon became apparent that the battle for winning places would be between two of the visiting boats, 2022 Peter Gray and Rachael Rhodes, 2014 Tim and Sarah Parsons and Porthpean’s 2032 Steve Mitchell and Polly Newman.
In the first race it was Peter and Rachael taking first place with Tim and Sarah 2nd, and Steve and Polly 3rd
The second race followed in much the same fashion, but this time it was Tim and Sarah that took line honours with Peter and Rachael 2nd.
The evening of that day was concluded with a barbecue with contestants being joined by club members to enjoy quantities of food, beer and some games of skittles.
Sunday proved to be an extremely warm day where the wind could not quite make up its mind from which direction to blow, if at all; around lunch time it looked as if a sea breeze may arrive but this faltered and failed leading to the abandonment of racing.
The final results, therefore, are taken from the second race with Tim and Sarah in first place, Peter and Rachael second, and Steve and Polly third.
Porthpean club were delighted to welcome visiting boats to this year’s Open and hope to see them all and a few more again next year.
Also if anyone visiting lost a pair of boots and gloves, let us know and they can be delivered to the Nationals at Looe.
