Change To Calendar (Notts County)

The Committee at Notts County Sailing Club have taken the very difficult decision to cancel this years Open Meeting (Inland Championships & Silver Scorpion 6/7) due to the high volume of weed they have experienced at Hoveringham this year.

Notts County have made a massive effort to try and clear the lake over the last few weeks to allow competitive, fair sailing. However despite the addition of blue dye and even volunteers cutting and removing swathes of weed it has been decided that for the fairness of racing to cancle and re arrange this years Open.

The Inland Championships and Round 7/8 of this years (closely fought) Silver Scorpion will now be held at Northampton Sailing Club, Pitsford Resevoir (which was an absolute hoot the season before last, with 25kts + and the only time I can remember my helm refusing to fly the kite.

The date for this will be the 26th & 27th September. The CA sincerely hope that our members understand the reason for this decision and despite the shift in date that it doesn’t mess your calendars up too much. We are aware that Elton (nr.Manchester) was due to be on the same day. We are currently in discussions with Elton to find a resolution.

Hopefully See You All There!

John Purdie

John is a relative late comer to sailing and even later getting into sailing dinghies. Despite having a lifelong fascination with most things boat, his first sailing experience didn’t come until 1999 at the age of 17 when he spent two weeks aboard the 135′ 340 ton, STA Sir Winston Churchill, as part of the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award Scheme. Over the last 12 years John has logged more than 15,000 mainly blue water miles with various tall ships and as a volunteer with the Tall Ships Youth Trust (the modern day Sail Training Association) 72′ Challenger Fleet, crossing the Atlantic both ways and competing in the 2011 Rolex Fastnet. After floating around in other classes for a few years, John found the Scorpion in 2011 and has never looked back, competing (as crew) in the last two Nationals and regularly on the National Circuit. John is based just outside Chester, Cheshire.
