Spring Warm Up – Sutton Bingham Sailing Club
Early Scorpion Action at the Sutton Bingham Spring Warm Up
3 scorpions took to the water – Tim and Sarah Parsons Sc 2014, James and Leigh Bishops Sc 892 and Jo Mahy and Ian Dooley Sc 1907.
Sailors were treated to an initially cold day, with a decent but shifty wind of force 3-5 and sunshine (eventually!).
The first race of the day started with a general recall as a good proportion of the 33 boats on the water were over the start line, 2nd start getting off pretty quickly afterward on the ‘I’ flag. Tim and Sarah (true to form) shot of at great speed and completed the race in 1st position in the Scorpion fleet (4th overall in the handicapped), James and Leigh finished 2nd Scorpion (20th on handicap) and Jo and Ian 3rd Scorpion (23rd overall).
2nd and 3rd races saw some close racing between James / Leigh and Jo / Ian with lots of changes in places. Jo even manged to take James out at the Leeward mark by not giving them enough room in the zone and dutifully did her 720 penalty in the 2nd race (sorry about that James and Leigh!).
1st Scorpion with three scorpion bullets were Tim and Sarah: R1 1st Scorp (4th in handicapped fleet), R2 1st Scorp (3rd in handicapped fleet), R3 1st Scorp (2nd in handicapped).
2nd Scorpion with two 2nds and one 3rd were James and Leigh R1 2nd Scorp (20th in handicapped fleet), R2 3rd Scorp (18th in handicapped fleet), R3 2nd Scorp (22nd in handicapped fleet).
3rd Scorpion with one 2nd and two 3rds were Jo and Ian R1 3rd Scorp (23rd in handicapped fleet), R2 2nd Scorp (15th in handicapped), R3 (23rd in handicapped fleet).
Final overall results in Handicapped fleet (after 1 discard) found:
Tim and Sarah in 3rd place (5 points)
Jo and Ian in 20th place (38 points)
James and Leigh in 21st place (38 points)
