Forward 2015 – Chairman’s Update

With the new season quickly approaching, I thought I would update you on a few objectives that we are aiming at for 2015

1) Making new boats readily available at a known and competitive price- for those of you who are not aware, you can get new GRP bare hulls from P&B for circa £5000. complete finished boats circa £10000. Both boats were on show at the Dinghy sow last week and both looked fantastic. Available on short leadtime, so if you want a new boat then they are readily available. Wooden hulls still built by Kev Gosling (Gosling Dinghy Craft) and via Nigel Potter (Paintcraft), contact details can be found on our site.

2)Ensuring that we have a classified advertising system for 2nd hand boats – this is in place on under classified ads – and if you are a member you can sign in and put your own adverts on – please use this service and help to generate sales. – if anyone in your club is after a bargain quality boat then this is where to look. In the last six months we have managed to find new homes for four boats that had been for sale for long periods on ‘other’ sites.

3) Nationals 2015- ensure we get entries to 50 or more – Nationals entry will be open shortly and we need to get as many as possible to attend – Lyme is a fantastic venue and we have already obtained accommodation discounts ( see website for further details). We MUST get entries in by June – so we will be offering a FREE raffle for all entries by this date with a free brand new HD Jib to the winner. As the season starts lets really encourage all friends and other club sailors to come to Lyme as it will be a fantastic week – we will even have free beer on 4 nights.

4) RYA Dinghy Show – we wanted to ensure that we had plenty of info on new boats and prices available with a modern and fresh looking stand – for those who attended I am sure you will agree that this was surpassed.

5) Membership – we want to make all members (new and old) feel wanted and to encourage them to remain members of the Association – you should have received a free T shirt promoting the Silver Scorpion series for this year. Please wear it ‘with pride’ at your clubs – if you have a T shirt you are part of the association – BE PROUD ! If there are people wanting to join then they can do this on the website OR shortly we will put up printable ‘forms’ to join in the good old fashioned way….

On general matters – great to see other scorps sailing and winning (John Clementson & Melanie Titmus (2019) and Barry & Linda Wolfenden (2014 ‘Big Bad Wolf’) in the Icicle @ Bough Beech and Paul Newman & John Purdie (1681 ‘Whiffler’) in the Shotwick Lake Brass Monkey) over winter in various events… if you have been hibernating over the winter and looking jealously at the boats that have been out, then get yourself started early this season and make the most of your Scorp – don’t sit at home looking at the garden or decorating just get out and sail – make the most of the best 3 sail dinghy there is!

see you on the water
